USB Serial Devices

Looking at the number of serial-to-USB ports on a computer, one can only surmise that the number of devices in the market is USB driven. Take for example, the USB serial adapter, which allows you to use a USB port to be able to connect two to sixteen devices such as your digital cameras, PDAs, printers and modems that will need a serial port to be functional. It’s as easy as that, really.

One can also use a USB video capture cable among the other devices offered that will make sure that one doesn’t need to add an internal video card apart from being able to make presentations by being able to add extra monitors for viewing among other purposes which allow you split your work with dual-monitor capability and so on and so forth.

Another device that uses USB technology is the video splitter which is very useful for one who needs to make a presentation using identical visual streams of video. These devices hold anywhere from 2 to 8 ports which can be fed to the same number of monitors or televisions.

All in all, with the ever-increasing functionality of USB devices for virtually every communication and storage device available, it doesn’t look like the number of serial (or any other type of) ports will ever added to a computer. Well, if you can’t beat them, then you can only join them…
