Twitter to let users follow live events, not just people

Twitter Inc will start curating tweets on live events, the microblogging service said, as it plans major changes to make its real-time news feed more user friendly. Dubbed Project Lightning, the changes will let users follow events instead of just people, and instantly upload photos and videos that can be shared across websites, social news and entertainment website Buzzfeed reported on Thursday. A team of editors will curate the most visually appealing and relevant tweets about say, a red-carpet event or shooting, and present them in one place, so that users need not be flooded with every single tweet as it is posted, Buzzfeed said

Alwaleed backs Twitter interim CEO Dorsey, says brings continuity

Saudi Arabia's Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, one of Twitter's earlier investors, told Reuters he believed Jack Dorsey would bring continuity to the social messaging firm and he would back him if he wished to become chief executive permanently. Dorsey, a co-founder of Twitter, was named interim head last Thursday after Chief Executive Dick Costolo abruptly announced he was stepping down effective July 1. In a written statement to Reuters, Alwaleed said he “knew Dorsey well and that as one of the founders who knows the company very well he would bring the needed continuity” while the company searched for a new chief executive

Facebook’s Seattle site leader leaves company

By Bill Rigby SEATTLE (Reuters) – The leader of Facebook Inc's fast-growing Seattle office left the company last month, a spokeswoman for the online social network told Reuters on Wednesday, a crucial personnel change at Facebook's largest engineering office outside of its Silicon Valley headquarters. Engineering manager Paul Carduner, who took over leadership of the Seattle office about six months ago, was in charge of more than 600 people.

Google launches portal to buy patents

(Reuters) – Google Inc said it would launch an experimental portal that allows interested patent holders to sell their patents to the company. Patent holders can tell Google about the patents they're willing to sell and the expected price through the portal, the company said on its blog.
