Police arrested a 15-year-old boy in Northern Ireland on Monday over a cyber attack that may have led to the theft of data from among the 4 million customers of British broadband provider TalkTalk . A ransom demand was received by TalkTalk on Friday. “A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of Computer Misuse Act offences,” London's Metropolitan Police, whose cyber-crime unit has been investigating the attack, said.

Microsoft and Yahoo amend search deal

(Reuters) – Microsoft Corp and Yahoo Inc amended a 2009 search partnership, giving Yahoo more control over how search results are displayed on desktops and mobile devices. The 10-year search partnership, crafted by former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and former Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz, allowed the companies to amend or terminate it after five years.

Panasonic eyes doubling of airline Wi-Fi installation to meet demand

French broadcaster TV5Monde hacked: Yahoo News

(Reuters) – French television network TV5Monde was hacked late on Wednesday by individuals claiming they support Islamic State, Yahoo News reported, citing a report by Agence France-Presse (AFP). The network was not able to broadcast from any of its channels and its social media sites and websites were “displaying claims of responsibility by Islamic State,” TV5Monde’s Director General Yves Bigot told AFP, according to the Yahoo report.

Starboard reiterates Yahoo should combine with AOL

(Reuters) – Activist-investor Starboard Value LP has reiterated that Yahoo Inc should consider a merger with AOL Inc and cut costs to improve profits, spurred by media reports that Yahoo is exploring other large-scale acquisitions.
