Court tells Delhi gang rape lawyers to explain documentary remarks

By Suchitra Mohanty NEW DELHI (Thomson Reuters Foundation) – India’s top court on Tuesday called on two lawyers to explain comments made in a controversial BBC documentary on the gang rape and murder of a woman on a Delhi bus, after female advocates said the remarks were “inhumane” and “unjustifiable”. The documentary “India’s Daughter” was banned by the government earlier this month, when the home minister said remarks by Mukesh Singh – one of four men convicted for the December 2012 crime – in which he blamed the victim, were derogatory and an affront to the dignity of women.

Mandarin Oriental says credit card systems compromised in cyberattack

Hotel operator Mandarin Oriental International Ltd said on Thursday that it was the victim of a cyberattack and that it found malicious software on credit card systems at “an isolated number” of hotels in the United States and Europe. The company said in a statement on its website that it was working with credit card companies, law enforcement and forensic experts as it investigates the matter.

State Department’s unclassified email systems hacked

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. State Department on Monday said its unclassified email systems were the victim of a cyber attack in recent weeks, around the same time as White House systems were breached, but no classified data was compromised. The department shut down portions of its unclassified system over the weekend to improve its security but said they should be back online shortly, though it declined to predict when.
